What’s new?

Feedback on Fallen Blades / Endless Stars is pretty good, and we’re already seeing people releasing additional material (like this one by Quan, an adventure and location creation procedure and an adaptation of Starcraft’s ships). So if any of you has written something for any of my games, let me know and I’ll pimp it here 🙂 ) Still working on an episode III about clone soldiers… Probably the same length as STAR RAIDERS.

What’s next?

Now I’m actively working on two projects:

GUNS, MAGES & CORPSES, if Shadowrun is Cyberpunk + Fantasy, this one is more Cyberpunk + Conan. Serpent people, security skeleton guards, Mummies acting as CEOs… And plenty, plenty of tools to run the game in a sandbox-style. Not sure if I’ll go through with this one but so far it’s pretty fun to write. I don’t want to locate the setting on Earth though. Cyber-Barsoom maybe?

DEATHRIDERS, a game very much inspired by Kameron Hurley’s Elephants & Corpses (haven’t read it? Maybe you should!). Here’s the dramatic intro:

Your cities are razed to the ground, your villages burned down, your people enslaved. All across the land men and women now dance to the tune of swords and battle cries.

To face the Empire bent on crushing your people, you became a Deathrider. You escape death by possessing a new body each time the reaper draws near. Cursed to live until your enemies are defeated.

This is also meant to be played in a sandbox-style as it’s my favorite way to run games at the moment. Published adventures and campaigns feel way too constraining now (though I know I’ll come back to them from time to time as my shelves are full of them 😛 ).

Long-term projects

A book on game design but written in the style of the Tao Te Ching (grab Ursula Le Guin’s version if you’re interested). Most game design books rely on the “technical” side of things, I want to write something that’s meant to “inspire” the reader to design their own games and ask themselves fruitful questions. A lofty goal, probably unattainable but I enjoy working on this a lot.

Dark Leningrad is still in the works and thanks to Gavriel Quiroga’s cover, I’m even more motivated to finally finish this project.

Still learning

I’m re-reading (and using) Tana Pigeon’s Mythic GM Emulator 2e a lot as I’m still new to the solo-side of RPGs though I’m enjoying it a lot (those games sitting on your shelves? You can play them even if you don’t have a group! It’s a good way to know if they should remain on your shelves as well 😛 ). Also reading Make a Scene, Writing a Powerful Story one scene at a time. A bit too formulaic but there’s something there to be extracted and put to good use for Referees, I’ll try to distill this in my next games.

Don’t be a stranger

I’ll be happy to read your comments and answer your questions if you have any.

See you next month!

P.S: almost forgot my initial promise to you… My manager.
